These days there is so much information on the Internet about how to get famous, get known now, be remarkable, find your niche, etc. And there's alot of GREAT information.
But what if you don't WANT to be famous? When I think of famous, I think of high-profile movie star or an appearance on Oprah. What if you don't want that kind of visibility and attention?
Maybe not wanting to be famous is a form of self-sabotage. Or maybe it's a result of being sensitive to judgment, attention and criticism. Or maybe it's just crazy.
Let's take a closer look...
Is it that you don't want success? Or is it that you want success on your terms? I seriously doubt you want to be mediocre. Maybe what you really want is to make a difference. So is there a distinction between wanting your work to be known, but not necessarily YOU?
Let's take a real-life example. I'm passionate about Animal Rescue and specifically about addressing the pet overpopulation problem. It is unacceptable to me that we put 4-5 million cats, dogs, puppies and kittens to death every year in this country's animal shelters. On average, over 75% of the animals going into shelters - die. The only answer is Spaying and Neutering our pets, addressing the problem at the root . I want every pet to have a wonderful, forever home. EVERY PET! This is WORK I'm passionate about and work that I want to be FAMOUS and KNOWN - NOW.
In the name of this WORK, I would do alot to get it out there in public - taking the attention, being more visible, and being the advocate. I wouldn't do it it to promote myself; but I would do it to promote the WORK. Note the distinction?
When you think about being famous or getting known now, what part of you responds? Does your ego jump up and say "Yes, that would be great!". Or does your mind jump in with some form of criticism or negativity? Does your heart expand or shrink? Do you get a knot in your stomach? All of these responses are valuable input and insight and clues as to what's important to you.
Maybe "getting famous" or "getting known" triggers some beliefs about what you will have to give up. Do you believe that to be successful, famous and known that you will have to give up your privacy and your sanctuary? Do you believe you will have a ton of obligations, responsiblities and commitments? Maybe you believe you will lose your free time and open space. Or that your calendar will be booked from dawn to dusk. Are these your beliefs about being famous? Or getting known? Or success? if so, then no wonder you don't want it! :D
My past experience with being known and being the expert (from corporate America) was that I was in high demand. That part was OK. What was not OK was having people think I was the only one who could help them and not having the option to say NO. I was not in control of my own schedule. That leads to overwhelm and burnout.
So it is crazy to not want to be famous? Is it crazy to not want a media kit and press releases so you don't get asked to be on TV or radio? Does it make a difference if you promote your work vs. your Self?
Hmmm... This is a great opportunity to look at your beliefs around success, being known, and being famous. If they work for you and empower you - great! If they don't and are getting in the way of what you want then it's time to transform your beliefs. (See Resources section below)
Here's to your Success - whatever that looks like for you!

"Whenever I meet someone,
I try to imagine {her} wearing an invisible sign
that says: make me feel important.
I respond to this sign immediately,
and it works wonders."
-Mary Kay Ash

It is argued that our greatest need today is to be heard, followed by
being validated. In our DOing culture, our rushing around, we rarely
take the time to deeply listen to each other, to acknowledge our
importance.
By focusing on the other person, looking for what's working for them,
what qualities the person is demonstrating, you become fully present
to the conversation. It is only by being in the moment, that you can
truly experience and enjoy the connection with the other person - this
is also where the 'magic' happens!
If you were in conversation with Mary Kay you would no doubt leave
the interaction feeling better than when you entered it. You would be
touched by the interaction. What a gift! What a legacy!
You can choose to leave a legacy of touching people, making their
lives better, just by being with you. Share a smile, listen deeply,
make them feel important. And you will be rewarded, in ways beyond
your imagination!

"Relationships are a key factor in your success,
not because of what other people can do for you,
but rather because of who you can become
by being in their presence."
- Laura Berman Fortgang, in Take Yourself to the Top
Who are you when you are in the presence of your friends, associates,
mentors? Do you like who you are? Are you courageous, genuine,
enthusiastic, more *you*?
It is an extraordinary gift to have friends and relationships that
empower you, strengthen you, *give you energy*. We're all familiar
with the people that drain our energy. Who amplifies your energy? Who
loves you not for what you do or do for them, but for *who you are*?
If you have people with whom you can be your true and authentic Self,
congratulations! If you don't, or if you would like more, make a
decision today to seek out people and a community for your Self. Just
by deciding, you will start to attract them into your life.
Feel free to email me the stories on the people you have/are
attracting into your life that energize you, inspire you and help you
shine your light brighter!

"People are like stained glass windows:
they sparkle and shine when the sun is out,
but when the darkness sets in
their true beauty is revealed only if
there is a light within"
-Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, psychiatrist
and author (1926)

----------------------------------------
How strong is your light within? Is it a 100-watt
that can shine through the densest fog? Or is it
is it a small flame, flickering in the slightest
breeze?
As this quote implies, we each have a light within,
that is always present. Your beauty is not in what
you have, what you do, or what people think of you.
Your beauty is in who you ARE, pure light, pure
Spirit, the beloved.
Do you hide your light under a bushel or do you
set it out for all to see? What is keeping you
from letting your light shine brightly? Going
boldly into the world and sharing who you are?
Answering these questions can lead you in the
direction of a life full of expression,
authenticity, fulfillment and passion!

"A woman is like a tea bag:
you never know how strong she is
until she gets in hot water."
- Eleanor Roosevelt & Nancy Reagan
I was recently blessed with witnessing
the birth of a new baby girl. The
whole experience was amazing; and what
moved me most was watching her mother
giving everything she had to bring her
baby into the world - and then giving
some more. Over and over, she went back
to the well that seemed to be dry, and
found more energy, more determination,
more strength. Brings tears to your eyes.
And I see mothers and women access this
strength every day in living their lives,
raising children, having careers, making
a difference.
It is time for us to acknowledge our inner
strength and realize how deep our wells are.
The world needs our feminine strength, now
more than ever. Stand tall in your strength
and your inner power, whether you're in hot
water or living your life!

"Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run
than outright exposure. Life is either a
daring adventure or nothing."
- Helen Keller
How would you describe your life? Is it a
daring adventure? Or is it boring? Or is it
somewhere in between? Most of us could add
some zest, some adventure to our lives -
living each day fully, going to sleep with
a smile on our faces.
If you want more adventure in your life,
try this exercise: First thing in the
morning before you get out of bed, ask your
Higher Self what would make today a day
well lived; and then wait for an answer.
You may see an image, hear a thought, sense
a feeling or just know...whatever the first
impression is...go with it.
Create an adventurous life, a life you love!
