I wish the weather would just pick a season.
I don't have enough drawer space to hold both warm and cold clothing, so I put off-season clothes into storage.
But lately the weather in Texas (and lots of other places) has been all over the place; and I've had to keep out both warm and cold weather clothes.
Just yesterday, it was warm enough that I pulled out a pair of shorts. Last night, as the wind started to blow, I went outside to move some plants out of the wind, and within 10 minutes I was freezing. The temperature dropped 15 degrees in 15 minutes.
Why am I sharing this with you? Because this situation is a metaphor for other areas of my life - and maybe yours too.
Since I can't control the weather; I'm focusing on what I can change. I'm wondering where else do I not have room for the unexpected? Where else does my system (storing off season clothes, in this case) not really work 'in real life'? And what do I really need?
To stay with the example, maybe I need another dresser or at least more drawer space. Or maybe I can free up some space in a drawer to accomodate both seasons of clothes. It's unlikely I'll be using all of either season, just a little of both.
Hmmm...applying this to other areas, I might take the best of a system or what is working and combine it with other parts that are working and create a new hybrid system that is better adapted to the real environment I encounter.
What hybrid systems might you create in your life? In your business? In your relationships?
In Spirit,
Lauren
P.S. - Another real-life example of a hybrid system that works is the hybrid automobile - it uses gas and electric, using the best that each has to offer. Together they make a great, gas-saving car!
